Our Customers

Kansans with health impairments and disabilities along with their family members are our customers.  Our traditional borrowers are men and women between the ages of 40-65. However, we are seeing younger borrowers taking advantage of newer technologies while older borrowers are seeking financial assistance for sensory aids like hearing aids and CCTVS. Many of our customers are born with a disability while others acquired a disability due to chronic illness or accident.

The majority of our customers typically would not be able to obtain financing from community banks or credit unions because they cannot meet the credit and underwriting requirements of those institutions. Well over 90% of our customers are what the banking industry defines as “unbankable.” Most have household incomes from social security, have very little disposable income, have little to no collateral and, typically, are considered high credit risks.

Often too the equipment they wish to purchase is not easily financed because the equipment is unique or has a limited group of people who require its use.  When you put together potential borrowers with limited assets with unique but costly equipment needs, financing opportunities are rare.

KATCO’s goal is to get technology into peoples’ lives as cost effectively as possible; this means we are aware of local and state-wide resources that our potential applicants might benefit from. Some of those resources are on our PARTNERS page.  Together we work to make certain Kansans obtain the types of services and supports they need to best use the technologies they require for independence.
